The OSF is now the biggest regional repertory theatre in America.

The Oregon Cabaret Theater features comedy and musicals through the year. Opened in 1986, a former First Baptist Church constructed in Mission Revival style is occupied by the dinner theater. The Ashland Independent Film Festival, which shows national and international pictures of nearly every genre, takes place in the Varsity Theatre downtown. About 90 movies are shown during the five days of the holiday. In 2009, Ashland was the setting for the film version of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline.

The yearly Ashland New Plays Festival (ANPF) is a nonprofit organization that supports playwrights to come up with new work through public readings. Annually, the ANPF holds a worldwide contest that winnows hundreds of entries to four plays which are read to live crowds by professional performers during a five-day holiday in October.

Lithia Park is a 93-acre park, including 42 acres on the National Register of Historic Places, that goes Ashland Creek close to the centre of the city and starts near the downtown shopping region. The name Lithia comes from natural mineral water discovered in the Ashland region. It’s a solid mineral flavor and little effervescence, as well as the lithia water fountains discovered on the town plaza are many times tasted by unsuspecting tourists (usually at the behest of residents or regular visitors using the fountains as a low-cost, funny Ashland initiation ritual).

The 25-mile route passes through Talent, Phoenix, and Medford and follows Bear Creek between Ashland and Central Point.
